Announcement
We are pleased to announce the academic year 2025-2026 scholarship opportunities for students currently enrolled in full-time college degree or graduate degree programs.
Scholarship Amount
Each scholarship recipient will receive a financial scholarship of $5,000.00.
Eligibility Requirements
Each applicant must be:
- a Korean-American college or graduate student from New York, New Jersey or Connecticut; enrolled full-time in a college degree or graduate degree program during two semesters of the academic year 2025-2026 ; and
- a United States citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Selection Standards
Scholarships will be awarded based on:
- demonstrated financial need;
- demonstrated exceptional academic and/or leadership accomplishments and promise through work and/or other activities; and
- commitment to obtaining the intended degree.

Timing and Process
Applications and required submissions are due March 15, 2025. See below for further instructions.
All applications are considered the property of the Edward and In-Aie Kang Foundation, Inc. and any materials submitted in support thereof will not be returned.
Applicants may be required to submit additional materials after the submission deadline.
Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than May 31, 2025.
No other notice will be provided to applicants unless deemed required by the Foundation.
Scholarships grants shall be made in Fall 2025 upon evidence of payment for tuition and receipt of a statement from the applicant’s university certifying enrollment as a full-time student for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Required Application Materials
Each applicant must submit the following:
- a completed application form (click here);
- an essay addressing the topic below;
- resume;
- a copy of the applicant’s undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate transcript; freshmen and sophomore applicants must also submit a copy the applicant’s high school transcript; transcript(s) may be submitted by email separately and directly to our email address by the school(s);
- two letters of recommendation from current or past university teachers; for freshmen and sophomore applicants, one of these letters may instead be from a high school teacher; letters of recommendation may be submitted by email separately and directly to our email address by the faculties
- the applicant’s family’s most recent tax return (even if the applicant has declared to be financially independent);
- proof of United States citizenship or permanent residency.

All submissions must be received by email on or before March 15, 2025. Only complete applications will be considered. No exceptions will be made.
Required Essay
The Edward and In-Aie Kang Foundation, Inc. seeks to identify promising students of Korean-American heritage, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Using specific examples from your personal life, academic and extracurricular accomplishments, tell us why you would benefit from this program, what you hope to achieve in your academic and future endeavors and anything else we should consider in reviewing your application. Essays should not exceed 1,000 words.
